There are five types of wrinkles we all “inherit” through
being alive. With a consistent skin care program and various treatment
methods, you can help diminish the fine lines and wrinkles that
reveal your age.
TYPE I: SUN TRIGGERED
The great majority of wrinkles can be blamed on long-term sun exposure.
Ultraviolet rays batter skin by breaking down the collagen and elastin,
the building blocks that support the outer layer of skin, or epidermis.
The most common trouble zones are eyes, upper lip, and nose. Damage
sets in as early as the mid-twenties.
TYPE 2: EXPRESSION LINES
Years of habitual movements-frowning, brow-knitting, squinting,
can etch permanent expression lines into your face. Most common
types: crow’s feet, smile lines, forehead furrows. These usually
start becoming noticeable in the thirties and forties.
TYPE 3: SLEEP INDUCED
Burying your face in your pillow night after night, year after
year, can “iron” fine vertical lines into your face.
Sleep wrinkles often appear between the temple and the corner of
your mouth on the side you normally sleep on and can become permanent
fixtures by the forties.
TYPE 4: COLLAGEN/ELSTIN COLLAPSES
As we age, the strength of these support tissues naturally starts
to diminish. The result: the same as when a mattress’s support
structure starts to give way-the overlying skin begins to sag here,
crease there; all over the face. Usually not really noticeable until
the early or mid-sixties.
TYPE 5: GRAVITY GROOVES
Though its effects can begin to show as early as the thirties,
by the early to late sixties, gravity really takes its toll on our
looks- jowls sag, under-eye bags form, even our ears get longer.
As we age we gradually lose some of the underlying facial fat that
helps support and round the skin above. The tell tale signs: cheeks
get hollow, bags form under the eyes, a guant look appears. These
become apparant in the sixties.
DON'T DESPAIR!
Unfortunately, the aforementioned can be depressing for anyone.
One reason cosmetic surgery and wrinkle altering preparations are
so popular is the reversal effects they have in combating this enemy.
There are many different treatment methods to combat the wrinkling
effects of age including:
At home skin care products
In office AHA treatments
Microdermabrasion
Laser Skin Resurfacing
And more.
